Cut From the Same Cloth - HomeCourt - Solo Exhibition

Cut From The Same Cloth

Cut from the Same Cloth, 2024 is a narrative-based Multi-Media Art Exhibition showcased through the lens of multi-disciplinary Artist Destinie Adelakun. This powerful show retells a personal legend of a modern woman of Nigerian and Indian heritage whose personal exploration and lived experience as a Mixed Race woman challenges the status quo. The Artist’s African and Indian cultures converge through the beauty of their photography, film, sculpture, textile, and immersive installations to welcome the viewer into their memories. Using a pre-colonial framework to research and explore both cultures, the audience is asked to remember their ancestral knowledge before the transgressions of colonial powers and the erasure of indigenous knowledge throughout history.

From the Gender-Bending Masquerade traditions of South-Western Nigeria to the cultural rituals with family in her Indian Home. This work contributes to a cultural movement to reclaim our indigenous practices.

Cut from the Same Cloth transports the audience through multiple sensory experiences each telling a varied story of their past.
